When a large grief wave is about to hit, sometimes I stand rigid. Then I let it smack into me, tossing me off my feet. Other times, I write poetry which pushes my hands together letting me dive straight under the wave. And still other times I talk to my grief and hold it.

With any of these choices, maybe I’m longing because Nicholas is close.

And I’ll take Nicholas close everyday.
